BEDEVERE was previously owned
by a friend (Tony) of a friend (Herb) from work. It was used as a work
vehicle, carrying motorcycles and spare parts, so the floor is no longer
straight. Being used as a shed and general storage area for a couple
of years didn't help either!
We christened him Bedevere
after the wise? English K-nnnigget from Monty Pythons "Holy Grail". It
has taken two years (and a few arguments) to finally get him on the road.
Originally the usual
commercial white, the exterior paint is now Midnight Blue, the internal has
yet to be done.
The engine is a standard 202
cubic inch Holden red motor, modified for unleaded petrol and fitted with
Genie extractors. Behind this is a standard 3 speed Trimatic auto.
The Engine and Transmission were overhauled by Rikki Steffens at
Lockyer Engine Reconditioners
The front brakes were
upgraded to HQ Holden discs in anticipation of the Chevrolet 350 cubic inch
I would eventually like to have under the bonnet. The brake mod never
goes astray, the standard drums are not really good enough especially down
mountain ranges where they tend to run out of grip.
The Bedford diff was replaced
with a Chevrolet (model and ratio's unknown at this time), to give it better
legs on the highway.
The overall project was
controlled (after the paint) by Graham at Lehmann Motors, Tarampa, with a
bit of help from the following people.
Seats fitted by Daryl and
Rob,
Side tinted windows were
installed by Percy.
The exhaust system is a
Lehmann original. (he makes them up as he goes along)
Problems yet to be solved.
-
Air Conditioning
-
Wall, floor and ceiling
insulation
-
Engine overheating
-
New instrument panel (one where all the
gauges work)
-
and a million other little niggly things
that are there or waiting to crop up.
I will keep you posted. |
